This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Using techniques of the Renaissance masters, Federico Castelluccio strives to capture the essence of his portrait subjects. He has painted numerous subjects including actor George Burns. In 1982, he won a four-year scholarship to the School of Visual Arts in New York City and there was particularly influenced in anatomy drawing by instructors Jack Endewelt, Steven Assaie and Steve Smulka.
He was born in Naples, Italy. In 1968, he came to the United States with his family and grew up in Patterson, New Jersey. From the School of Visual Arts, he earned a B.F.A. Degree.
For his portraits, he works from photographs and from several sittings. He also has a second career as a successful actor, and he and his paintings were in a film, "Eighteen Shades of Dust," starring Danny Aiello and William Forsythe. |
