| A western landscape painter, especially of Colorado and the Southwest, Hazel Abbot grew up in Canada and came to the United States in 1917. Her sister was painter Agnes Abbot.
Hazel studied art for four years at the Child-Walker School of Fine Arts in Boston and attended the Charles Woodbury Summer School of Painting at Ogunquit, Maine.
She was the daughter of an Anglican bishop and spent her childhood at a Hudson Bay Company post called Moose Factory, Ontario until she was age nineteen. She attended St. Albans School for Girls, which was founded by her mother.
In 1923, married to Charles Abbot, she had a mental breakdown and didn't regain her health until ten years later when she lived in Colorado Springs. From that time she painted all over the West including Yosemite in California.
In 1935, she and her sister-in-law, Agnes Abbot, had a two-woman exhibition at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, and several years later she had a solo exhibition at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center.
