A calendar illustrator and lithographer, Robert Gillespie began making art calendars to supplement his income as a middle school art teacher in Penn Yan, New York. In his region, he has become known for his calendar art, usually scenes of local landscape and wildlife. Sometimes he incorporates images of found objects such as corroding hood ornaments. His first effort was a print run of 500 calendars with the originals being pen and ink drawings from subjects he has photographed.
