| Born in Tiffin, OH on Jan. 4, 1906. After studying at the ASL in NYC, Murphy was a cartoonist for newspapers in New York and Chicago for many years. He moved to San Francisco in 1930 and, after studying at the CSFA, abandoned commercial work to devote his time to fine arts. From 1935-40 he worked on the Federal Art Project and completed 91 lithographs, many of the construction of the Golden Gate and Bay bridges. From 1943 he served as war artist in the South Pacific. After the war he settle (showing 500 of 1376 characters). |
