A modernist painter and lithographer, Maybelle Stamper was born as Mabelle Richardson. She grew up in her birth place of Dublin, a small town in New Hampshire and attended New Hampshire State Normal School and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
In 1928, she moved to New York and from 1930 to 1937 was enrolled in the Art Students League. She studied figure painting with William Merritt Chase and was also a student of George DeForest Brush. In 1937, she married William Stamper, (showing 500 of 6812 characters). |
