Biography from Charleston Renaissance Gallery:
Joe Cox was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and received his art education at the John Herron Art School and at the University of Iowa. He taught art at the University of Iowa, Tennessee, Florida, and at North Carolina State University.

He was a painter and a muralist whose modernist works were loose representations of the world around him. He worked in oils, watercolors, and acrylic polymer on both canvas and paper.

Cox exhibited works in the World's Fair, San Francisco, CA in 1939 and at the Carnegie Invitational in 1941. He was commissioned to do six murals for the Tennessee Valley Authority. He has works in numerous private, corporate and museum collections.
