| An art educator and artist, Edgar Heap of Birds, a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indian tribes, does abstract painting conveying word images and associations and "provides an environment in which the viewer is free to make his or her own mental images". . .(Lester 227).
Edgar Heap of Birds was born Wichita, Kansas and became a resident of Geary, Oklahoma. He attended East High School in Wichita, Kansas; earned a BFA from the University of Kansas and an MFA from Temple University in Philadelphia. Commission work by Heap of Birds is in the Walker Art Gallery in Minneapolis.
