This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Joan Stier is a painter as well as president of the Central New York branch of the National League of American Pen Women, an organization of professional artists, writers and musicians, with National Headquarters in Washington, DC. She is also a 30-year member of the North Syracuse Art Guild; and a member of the Visual Arts Committee of the Cultural Resources Council, Syracuse, NY. This group promotes a juried art exhibition quarterly at the WCNY public television station of Syracuse.
Stier had a childhood that included Sunday afternoon rides to her grandfather's farm in Central New York. In the winter she skated on the pond in the pasture, and memories of those days became the inspiration for her imaginative Victorian skater paintings. She is a self-taught artist.
While raising four children, she joined the North Syracuse Art Guild, which opened the door to the exciting career she has experienced for the last thirty years.
