This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| In 1978 while living in Tuscany Jania Ashby visited an Italian marble yard and began carving stone in the "laboratorio". She learned to work the medium and took advice from the artisans at the laboratorio. Ashby has been working in marble ever since. Ashby's works are organic abstract, meaning she lets the subject come from the stone. The works are abstracted but there is a recognizable feature to them.
