| Auriel Alexsandor Bessemer was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 27, 1909. Bessemer studied at the Art Students League in New York City, Columbia University, and National Academy of Design. During the Depression she was employed by the Works Progress Administration and painted a mural for the post office in Arlington, Virginia. Her early career was spent in Washington, DC. She died in Merced, California on February 15, 1986.
