Born in Nagoya, Japan, Nanae Ito studied and mastered Japanese watercolor painting.  She did not desire to become a wife and wanted a career, which was not possible for a woman in Japan at that time.

In 1959, she came to the United States to work as a designer for Hallmark Cards. For a period of time, she went to work for the U.S. Air Force creating illustrations and diagrams.

She currently lives in Countryside, Johnson County, frequently traveling to Europe and to her (showing 500 of 1025 characters).
