| The following, submitted July 2005 by Kathy Ruth Neal, is excerpted from the obituary of the artist published in the "San Francisco Chronicle", September 10, 2004
MACHADO, Veryl A. - Beloved mother, grandmother and artist, died on August 11, 2004 in Bishop, CA. Born in The City on March 3, 1927. Her parents were Vera and Claude A. Beagle. She attended high school and college in Sacramento. She married Robert Knox, a San Franciscan, in 1944 in Reno. Robert (deceased) was an advertising artist. They raised six children, spending much time in the Sierras, skiing and backpacking, while residing in Lafayette, CA.
She divorced Robert in 1982. She ran a business in The City, with Reginald Machado, of Carmel, whom she married, in Pine Grove, CA on October 16, 1983. She graduated at age 55 with a law degree cum laude from the Armstrong School of Law, Berkeley. She and Reginald moved to Walker, CA, where their associations included the Eastern Sierra Creative Arts Guild and Carmel Art Association.
Veryl instilled in her children a love of the mountains and outdoors, but most importantly, to look at the vistas as artists and leave no footprints on the landscape. |
