California artist Judith Lowry is a Native American painter of Maidu and Pit River ancestry. Her artwork portrays creation myths as well as images which comment on contemporary social issues such as Indian gaming, the status of women and mainstream American culture.
Her parents met while her father, who was a serviceman in the Army, was stationed in Australia. The family lived in locations throughout the world as Lowry was growing up. She always had an interest in in art and won her first (showing 500 of 1342 characters). |
