| Peter Alfred Gross was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1849 and lived most of his career in France, 1874-1914.
He is primarily known for his landscapes of the French countryside and his seascapes. Gross studied in Paris with Petitjean, and exhibited at the Paris Salon. He also exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia.
He was instrumental in the founding of the Allentown Art Museum through a bequest in his will. A large example of his work in on display in the foyer of the museum.
He died in Chicago in 1914.
