| A North Carolina author and painter, Ellis Credle has illustrated and written numerous children's books. She was born in Hyde County on Pamlico Sound in North Carolina and at age sixteen, enrolled in Louisburg College. In 1922, shewent to the Blue Ridge Mountains to teach school for four years and then went to New York City to study interior decoration. In New York, she worked as a governess for two children, and entertaining them with stories, she got the idea to write and illustrate children's (showing 500 of 1971 characters). |
