John Nichols Haapanen - teacher and painter of landscapes, coastal scenes, rivers, harbors, and boats - was born in Niantic, CT on October 13, 1891 but the date of his death is unknown. His listed address for the years 1929, 1934, and 1936 is Boothbay Harbor, ME.
Haapanen studied art with Ernest Lee Major (1864-1950), W. F. Brown, and Anson Kent Cross (1862-1944). He was a member of the Boston Art Club and the Copley Society in Boston, MA and taught at Tufts University in Medford, MA and Dean Academy in Franklin, MA.
