Thomas Waterman Wood (Nov. 12, 1823-April 14, 1903)
Born and raised in Montpelier, Vermont, Thomas Wood became a watercolorist of genre scenes with figures and objects that have meticulous detail.
He worked in his father's cabinet-making shop, and in 1846 went to Boston where he likely studied with Chester Harding. In the 1850s, he became a successful portrait painter, and in 1858, he went to Paris to study and to set up a studio and also studied in Dusseldorf with Hans Gude. (showing 500 of 5231 characters). |
