Walter Gilman Page
1862-1934

Walter Gilman Page — artist and writer — was born on October 13, 1862 in Boston, MA and died on March 24, 1934. A painter of portraits, landscapes, and still life, Page worked in Boston, Nantucket, and Paris. The Boston Art Club lists his addresses as Paris in 1889; 90 Westland Avenue, Boston in 1891 and 1894; Sharon, MA in 1905; Fenway Studios, Boston, MA in 1906; and 310 Fenway Studios in 1907. Page is also listed as living in Nantucket, MA in 1929.

Page studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School and was the pupil of Gustave Boulanger (1824-1888) and Jules Lefebvre (1836-1911) at the Academy Julien in Paris. He was a member of the Boston Museum School Alumni Association; a life member of the Portland Society of Artists in ME; the Springfield Art Society in MA; the American Federation of Arts; the Massachusetts State Art Commission; and the Boston Commission on Historic Sites. Page exhibited at the Paris Salon for three seasons and the Boston Art Club, 1889, 1890, 1891, 1894, 1905, 1906, and 1907. He was also the organizer of the Public School Art League.

Page's work is represented in the collections of the Whistler House Museum of Art in Lowell, MA; the Toledo Museum of Art in OH; the Massachusetts State House in Boston; the City Hall in Portland, ME; Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME; the Maine Historical Society; Colby College in Waterville, ME; the Vermont State House in Montpelier; the Worcester Public Library in MA; the Fall River Public Library in MA; the City Hall in Lowell, MA; the Dracut Public Library in MA; and Tufts University in Medford, MA.
