A landscape and genre painter, Thomas Farrer was born in London, England and studied there with John Ruskin. From 1860 to 1884, he exhibited at the National Academy of Design and from 1862 to 1868, exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. In 1872, he returned to England, where he lived until his death in 1891.
