A Pennsylvania painter known for his figural, religious, and landscape paintings, John Conner studied at the Pennsylvania Academy and later exhibited there from 1890 to 1943. He was part of a Bucks County group of landscape paintings who called themselves "The Scumblers", term for stiff-bristled brushes that apply scumble, a film of color applied on top of another color to modify the original color.
From 1900 to 1920, the Scumblers regularly spent their summers together in Edison, near Do (showing 500 of 871 characters). |
