This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Worth Ryder was born in Kirkwood, Illinois on November 10, 1884.  Ryder studied at University of California at Berkeley, Art Students League in New York City (1906-08), and in Munich at the Hans Hofmann School and the Royal Bavarian Academy.  During 1917-18 he was director of the Oakland Art Gallery and professor of art at University of California from 1926-55. 

A resident of Berkeley for most of his life, he died there on February17, 1960. 

Member:  San Francisco Art Ass’n; Beaux Arts Club (SF); California Society of Mural Artists. 

Exhibited: San Francisco Art Ass’n, 1911-14, 1935;  California Society of Etchers, 1913-15; Panama Pacific International Exposition, 1915 (silver medal); Oakland Art Gallery, 1934; San Francisco Museum of Art Inaugural, 1935; Golden Gate International Exposition, 1939. 

Works held:  California Academy of Sciences Bldg, Golden Gate Park (murals); Piedmont (CA) High School (mural); San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
