| Born in Berlin, Germany in 1794. While working as an agent for a German hides and tallow firm based in Mexico City, Deppe made six trips to California between 1828-36. In 1832 he painted the earliest known views of Missions San Gabriel and Santa Barbara now held in the Santa Barbara Mission Library. In: Orange County (CA) Museum. (showing 335 of 822 characters). |
