This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| A watercolorist, Mabel Valencia submerged her talents to raise the nine children that she had with artist Manuel Valencia, whom she met when they were both doing illustration work for the Salvation Army. When time permitted, she did post-card size watercolors that the children sold to earn money.
Mabel Valencia was born in Leeds, England and first studied in Sheffield and then in the 1890s, emigrated to California where she took classes at the Crocker Art Gallery with William F. Jackson.
She and her husband lived much of their lives in San Jose after the 1906 earthquake and fire, and she died in nearby Hayward on March 13, 1963.
