Born in Iowa with the name of Zula Maud Maple Miles, she became a painter and sculptor of western scenes as well as an educator, inventor, writer, and lecturer.
She moved with her family to Chicago in about 1880 and during childhood had ill health, so most of her education was private until she was able to attend West Division High School. Her art talent became obvious, and she then enrolled in the Chicago Art Institute.
In 1893, she participated in the World's Columb (showing 500 of 2196 characters). |
