Biography from Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site:
| Thomas Glessing was born in London. He came to America when he
was about 20. Glessing mainly worked painting theatre scenery. He
worked for the Metropolitan Theatre in Indianapolis by 1859, and
continued until 1873 when he left to work for the Boston Museum
Theatre.
He also worked for a short time at the Booth Theatre in New York.
He died in Boston in 1882.
The Indianapolis Museum of Art owns a Glessing that is the only one known to bear his signature. It is dated 1859.
