| Born in Amsterdam, NY on Jan. 12, 1853, the son of Mary Weaver and Bradley Armstrong. In 1876 the Armstrong family traveled by train to California and settled in Oakland where Fred and his father established a sign and carriage painting business. Active in civic affairs, Fred served as an official and was a charter member of the Oakland Guards. About 1889 he moved across the bay to San Francisco where he built a home and studio in the Mission District at 2828 Harrison.&nb (showing 500 of 2006 characters). |
