| Born in Iowa on March 31, 1843. When Henry was a child, the Dickson family crossed the plains to California and settled on a farm in Solano County. Henry Dickson was a deaf-mute whose use of pencil and paper enabled him to develop artistically at an early age. In 1861 he enrolled at the California School for the Deaf where he remained until 1866. After attracting the attention of artist Thad Welch, he accompanied him on sketching trips. At Welch's urging, he went to Munich to study with Wil (showing 500 of 1173 characters). |
