Anna Stewart Root was born in Topeka, Kansas on February 16, 1872. She came to San Francisco with her family about 1876. The Roots lived in a hotel on Rincon Hill before settling into a home at 1814 Steiner. As a young woman Anna spent many summers at Sutter Creek with her great-uncle Sam Stewart. This was her initial acquaintance with the Mother Lode country where she later lived.
Her mother, Ida Wildman, was the niece of Senator William M. Stewart of Nevada and during part of Anna's ch (showing 500 of 3786 characters). |
