This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Known for his portraits and panoramic scenery paintings, Mathuren Andrieu was a native of France and studied at the French Royal Academy in Paris. By early, 1940 he was in New Orleans, and then is tracked in Charleston, South Carolina in 1851 when he exhibited, with music and entertainments for a fee, a series of dissolving views of London and New Orleans. In the spring of 1853, he was in St. Louis exhibiting panoramas of southern life. By 1862, he had settled in Providence, Rhode Island where he lived until his death in 1896. While doing his panoramas, he also did some portrait and sign painting works.
