| Military: (1958-1961) When serving in the Army overseas, the officers arranged for him to paint murals on the walls of army buildings in lieu of army duties.
Robert's mother, although uneducated in white man's ways, recognized his talent and encouraged him to enroll in the Inter-Mountain School at Brigham, Utah, where he could receive art instruction along with his academic training. While there, he studied with Allan Houser.
