Born in England, it is thought by Grove and Wallace that he exhibited there at the Royal Academy between 1816 and 1835 under the name of J. Jackson Jr. and that in 1833, he exhibited at the National Academy of Design in New York. Apparently he stopped there on is way to the South.
He became a noted miniaturist in Charleston, South Carolina, and according to William Gerdts became one of that city's "last significant miniaturists, coming to this country in 1831 and settling in South Carolin (showing 500 of 1013 characters). |
