Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, Eleanor Greatorex was a specialist in floral
paintings and figure works, instructed by her mother, Eliza, and her
sister, Kathleen. She also studied at the National Academy of Design, 1869-1870,
and in Paris with Carolus Duran and Jean-Jacques Henner in 1879.
In
1881, while sketching with
her family in Algiers, she became ill, and they all returned to New
York, although after her recovery, she and her sister traveled
