William S. Elwell, son of a highly regarded cabinetmaker, was born in Brimfield, MA on July 15, 1810 and died in Springfield, MA on August 12, 1881.
Elwell was a painter of portraits, landscapes, rivers, and fishermen. He was also musically inclined and played the clarinet at the South Church when it was on Bliss Street in Springfield. In 1831 — at the young age of twenty-one — Elwell went to (showing 500 of 2404 characters). |
