This biography from the Archives of AskART:

Born in Chicago in 1929, Russell Moreton received his formal art training at the Art Institute of Chicago and later worked with such notables as E.L. Spurgeon, Marcus L. Prince, Charles S. Crockett, and Frank Hamilton.

After his studies, he developed his own unique style as he lived and traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, Japan, and the islands of the Pacific. His winters were spent roaming the Pacific coast from Puget Sound to Cabo San Lucas. For six full years he lived in Baja, California, Mexico where he flew his plane to uninhabited and virtually unexplored areas in order to study and paint the magnificent Sea of Cortez. He devoted most of his time to painting the fascinating landscape of Arizona, where he maintained his studio, and he also had a studio in Laguna Beach, California.

Russell Moreton paintings are in both private and corporate collections and have hung in the Western White House of President Nixon at San Clemente, California. "Reader's Digest" corporate personnel have purchased one of his paintings for a cover. His paintings are in the permanent collections of Riverside Art Center and Museum, Sand Diego Art Museum, Los Angeles Museum of Arts, Phoenix Art Museum, Leanin' Tree Museum and Colorado State Museum.

Moreton had a permanent listing in "Who's Who in American Art," "Dictionary of International Biography," "Men of Achievement," "Personalities of the West and Midwest" and "Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans."

In 1994, he was murdered, a case which has remained unsolved.
