Cartoonist. Born in Silverton, OR on March 8, 1868. Davenport was raised on a farm and then was a jockey, railroad fireman, and circus clown. In 1892 he moved to San Francisco and found work drawing baseball pictures for the Examiner. He studied briefly at the local School of Design but was essentially a self-taught artist.
In 1895 he moved to NYC and continued work for the Hearst papers. Later in life he became a pioneer in the U.S. in breeding Arabian horses at his farm in Morris P (showing 500 of 719 characters). |
