| Born in San Francisco, California on December 23, 1896, Marion Victoria Dorn was a brilliant student who graduated from Stanford University at age 16. Her marriage in 1919 to artist Henry Varnum Poor ended in divorce. She then became enamored with artist Edward McKnight Kauffer and lived with him in London, England from 1923 until 1940.
Returning to New York City at the outbreak of WWII, the couple were married in 1950. Mrs. Kauffer died in Tangiers, Morocco on Jan. 28, 1964. As well as a painter of still lifes and portraits, she was also a textile designer.
