This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Born in Burdett, NY on May 10, 1866. After graduating from Syracuse University, Louise Brown moved to Palo Alto, CA with her parents in 1894. There she met Herbert C. Nash who was Leland Stanford's secretary, tutor to his son, and first librarian at Stanford University. They were wed in 1899 but Mr. Nash died three years later. The widow then went to Europe where she studied art and for awhile had a studio in Paris. Returning to California, she illustrated books for scientists at UC. Mrs. Nash died in Santa Barbara, CA on March 11, 1945. She was the sister of artist Bolton Coit Brown.
