| | Born in Oakland, CA on May 18, 1911. Vermeer began his career in 1930 as a sportswriter-illustrator for the Oakland Post Enquirer. In 1945 he started a comic strip called Priscilla's Pop for syndicated newspapers. He died in Arcata, CA on Nov. 25, 1980. | Source:
