The following biography was submitted by the artist's family, June 2005
Arthur J. Barbour was born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, the heart of America's once thriving silk industry. He was the youngest of four children born to Drs. Peter and Alma Barbour. After attending local schools, a young Arthur Barbour responded to his country's call of duty by joining the U.S. Navy during WWII. Upon his return from active duty, he enrolled in the Newark Public School of Fine and Industrial Art (showing 500 of 3096 characters). |
