Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
| Painter. Born on Oahu, HI on May 1, 1852. Helen was the daughter of Henry M. Whitney, the founder of the Honolulu Advertiser. In 1876 she married Luke Kelley, an Oakland bank official. During the 1890s she made trips to Hawaii to visit relatives. While there, she painted several watercolors of the Islands, floral studies, and lei-bedecked natives. She died in Honolulu on April 3, 1910. Exh: Mechanics' Inst. (SF), 1883-93; SFAA, 1884-95; Calif. State Fair, 1886-95. In: Bishop Museum (Honolulu). Encounters With Paradise; DR.
