This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Barbara Lawrence left a computer illustrator and graphic artist position at a software company, in 1997 to pursue fine art. She was painting backgrounds for products like Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and the Living Books line. "When I left I was so hungry for my fine art that nothing could have gotten in my way," she says.
Lawrence now divides her time between painting and teaching art classes and workshops. She has been teaching for almost three years, now holding her weekly classes at a nearby community center. For many years she painted on location but now uses photographs in the classroom. Her home is in Marin County, amid the golden hills of northern California.
Barbara is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America.
