This biography from the Archives of AskART:

Actor Billy Dee Williams attended the National Academy of Fine Art and Design in New York before turning to acting to make money for art supplies. His art career took off again in the 1980s and his work is now in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, The Smithsonian Institution and The Schomburg Museum.
