Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
| | Painter, illustrator. Born in Manchester, England on Aug. 1, 1853. While living in Ohio, Parkhurst was associated with the Toledo Museum for many years. Having visited California during the PPIE, he retired from the museum in 1917 and settled on the Monterey Peninsula into a studio-home in the Carmel Highlands. His earlier painting forte had been landscapes; however, the California coast with its rugged cliffs and the many moods of the ocean dominated his later subject matter. Parkhurst died in Carmel on March 26, 1923. Member: Salmagundi Club; NAC; Carmel AA. Exh: Gumps (SF), 1919; Carmel Arts & Crafts Club, 1920; Warden Gallery (SF), 1928 (memorial).
