I was quite close to Leslie Posey from 1980 until his passing. A group of artists, me among them, somewhat descended on him and somehow persuaded him to teach us. It was the greatest learning experience of my life and has made me the artist I am today. He was an amazing person.
Leslie Thomas Posey
My husband was married to Leslie Posey's niece. I have sculptures that he made before he was even recognized as a sculptor. As well as many things he and his father whittled.
My husband talked often of Mr Posey, but he never mentioned him studying medicine. I wish I had read this when my husband was still alive.

Leslie Thomas Posey
I was a student of Mr. P's for 6 yrs while living in Sarasota, Fl. Everything i say here i herd from him. Mr. Posey was a veteran of the United States Army. He served with Black Jack Purshing in Mexico while chasing Pancho Villa. His job was that of a survayer or enginer. Mr. Posey was the soil survivor of an attact on his squad by mexican Villistas and was sen't to a hospital in Chicago, Ill. to recover from his wounds. While there, he became interested in medicne and eventually earned a medical degree at the Universaty of Chicago. While studying medicine he became interested in the human figure and its relation to fine arts. He wen't on to study at the Chicago Art Instatute where upon graduation he was awarded the Tour De France for his artistic achievment. He accepted the award but turned down the trip to France so he could get maried that year. His Wife was a fellow student at the art Instatute. I hope this info will help with your Bio of a wounderful artist and very dear teacher.
