E. Thomas Painting
I too have a painting of the Miller Home. I believe it is a reproduction printed on some sort of embossed material that makes it appear to look like it has brush strokes. It also has a brass plate in the center of the bottom of the frame. after seeing all the postings on this site,I am now convinced it has little to no value, although any info on this item would be greatly appreciated. Keep looking treasure seekers!!
i have recently come accross an original painting by Gert Thomas dated 7/5/11 of Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand. can anyone help me or give me information on the artist?
Edward Kirkbride Thomas.
I am the Great Great Great Grandson of E.K. Thomas. He was the Grandfather of my Great Grandma Gertrude Thomas Inglehart. The Kirkbride middle name was his mother's (Mary B. Kirkbride) maiden name. I have three of his originals in my house (A view of Fort Snelling, Minn., A reverse glass painting of a cross, and a small painting of the Dutch shore). Although most of his original painting were burned in a fire, the originals which still exist aren't worth all that much.
One thing I have noticed about Edward's original art is that they are signed "E.K. Thomas" not "E Thomas" and they are dated with the year in which they were painted.
If anyone has any information on his family line I would greatly appreciate it.

Estelle L. Thomas (1883-1969)
Estelle L. Thomas, a painter, illustrator and teacher, was born in New York City, and studied at the Pittsburgh School of Design for Women, the University of Pittsburgh, the Carnegie Institute, the Parsons School of Design in New York and with Martin Borgard, John Sloan and Charles Hawthorne. Around the time this painting was made, Thomas was living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and spending summers in East Gloucester, Massachusetts, where she was a member of the Gloucester Society of Artists. She was a member of the Art Association of Pittsburgh, where she exhibited regularly between 1910 and 1946. Other exhibitions credits include the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Jenner Art Gallery and the Carnegie Institute. From 1910 to 1946 she also taught in the Pittsburgh public schools. The inscription on the reverse of this watercolor indicates that Thomas also lived in San Diego.
Can you give me any more information on Estelle Thomas; Where she lived, when she was born and died?

Red Grist mill Painting
just thought I would post an update. On Ebay there is a reproduction of the Grist Mill - by Estelle Thomas not "Edward". So I guess we had the wrong artist - have been able to find other oil paintings by the artist -
Sorry for any misleading information.

Red Gristmill Painting.
I went to the "Who Was Who in American Art"
Thomas, Edward Kirkbride(Painter, decorator) born 1817,Philadelphia, Died,1906, Detroit, MI.
Work:Minneapolis Inst. Art. Of coloinial ancestry, he fought in the Seminole War and the Civil War. He made several views of Fort Snelling, MN and other drawings and sketches for the Army Ordinance Depart. in South Carolina. Sources: Gibson, Artists of Early Michigan.
In the Ask Art Blue Book for the Spring of 2001 there is no listing of the value of his paintings as I guess they have not been brought to auction.
I will have to look for the Gibson book now. My bet is that this picture is over a 100 years old and its value to a collector would be substantial - if you can find a collector of this artist.
Appreciate anyone with other information - drop me a line.

Homeward Bound by E. Thomas
I have a large painting by E. Thomas " Homeward Bound"
51" by 28" framed I Found it at an Antique Auction. I see where everyone is asking about the Artist E. thomas. I did see a puzzles of Homeward Bound but I have been unable to find out anything about him. If anyone knows anything please respond. Thanks you so much
I contacted a gallery about the painting, alternately called The Red Watermill, Red Grist Mill here in this forum, about two years ago. The gallery gave me the brief history they had on this artist, which I am sorry to say I do not recall, and was in the process of selling two large paintings by the artist. The works they had were selling at about $7500.00 each.
I do not believe that E. Thomas is Edward Kirkbride Thomas, though the era seems right for both, as the 'Mill' painting was done, I believe, in 1896.
I saw this large, textured work, with boy and stream in the image, and signed in the lower RIGHT corner (I had to surmise it was a museum or limited-edition print done at the turn of the century, and therefore very different from the slick reprints we see today) for sale in Ohio, and have never stopped thinking about it. It was at a Goodwill, selling for seven dollars.
Two months later I saw what looked like the exact same item, frame, sizing and all, for $4900 on ebay. Don't know if it sold or not.
I find it lovely, with or without a concencus on its value. If you like it, hang it, albeit in a very large space.
I also have a painting that I purchased from a yard sale of E.Thomas of the Red and stone farmhouse in background. My picture does not have the geese or the boy but it says from E.Thomas and framed by basson manufacturing the frame seems to be old as does the painting, but I cannot seem to find any kind of information about this. If anyone has any information please let me know.

I have a western landscape painting clearly signed E. Thomas. It shows sagebrush and a cattle herd in the foreground, a ranch in the middle ground and in the background mountains painted in the later style of Maynard Dixon. The sky is reminiscent of the sky in Fort Snelling. It''s dirty and needs some repairs. Does anyone know if it has enogh value to be worth cleaning and repaired? I really like it. Thank you.
