Holmwood Portraits
The Loren Holmwood portraits are of the artist Joane Cromwell, her mother, Julia Brown Strode, and her son, Leslie Cromwell Blakley.
Julia Brown was the inspiration for one of the poems by Edgar Lee Masters in his "Spoon River Anthology".

Loren Conrad Holmwood, 1892-1985
I recently viewed 3 signed, beautiful, pastel portraits
by this noted artist. I would like more information about him.

Joane Cromwell
Wynonah Breazeale Johnson, art critic and special correspondent for the "Los Angeles Times", wrote in 1936: "Joane Cromwell has transferred to canvas nature's beauty with such sincerity, strength and charm that her paintings bring to the onlooker the very sound, as well as the life, of sea and rugged rocks, arching trees, majestic mountains, and lambent sky...The artist has brought a vast depth of feeling as well as exquisite color, and a bold sense of flowing life to her canvasses."

Joane Cromwell
The final Exhibit and sale of the "Artist's Collection", was held in October, 1977, in Canton, Illinois, near the Artist's birth place.
The paintings were transported from California to Illinois by Joane Cromwell's last husband, Morris Liddle.
Mr. Liddle donated Joane's memorabilia to Western Illinois University at Macomb, Illinois.
Joane Cromwell died 12/23/1969 in California.
