reply to Ken Butterworth
Dear Ken,I detect a conflation of two problems here. First,is the artwork itself a signed Holesch? I recommend
comparison with reproductions like "Signature Examples" above. Second,is your painting materially an original? Since my father both produced and sold many paintings, they are liable to turn up in unlikely places and formats. The very ramshackle nature of your painting suggests that it could well be an original. If in doubt
of course you should seek professional advice. Hope this helps, and
watercolor by denes de holesch

Reply to Sammie,
Dear Sammie, the value of the frame is irrelevant to that of the painting-if you don't like it chuck it!
If watercolour is signed, and signature looks authentic-check "signature examples" link on this page-it is very probably original. You might also compare the horses with those displayed
on the web.
By the way, recent Holesch auction results will soon be available on AskART.
Best regards, Hugo
Lovely watercolor of two throughobred horses with jockey's on them. Looking at at them from the rear. One has the legs in the air and the jockey in a blue and white striped silksthe other is what appears to be yellow with red polka dot silks. The colors are muted and it is signed in the lower right. It's a rather large watercolor. Anybody know if it would be an original Holesch (picture of it anywhere?)
Thank you for your help.

Several Holesch horse paintings were printed on really good posters in the '60s and '70s and sold in the millions in the US and England. The one in your collection is probably one of these, rearranged by an art collector.
In Another Day in Paradise, a couple of Holesch prints can be seen on the wall, behind Melanie Griffith. I hope this is helpful.
20 years ago I found a large picture of two horses signed Holesch. I loved it had no idea of the artist, I just loved the detail of the horses looking so wild and it was only £3.00!!
When I had it re framed I was quite suprised to see it lookes quite real! not like a print as what I thought of a print. It seems to be on an artists board and looked quite rough. There is no name just the signature Holesch in the left hand corner. It looks to be of charcoal or ink or watercolour, sorry I am not an artist!. It also has a smudgy look about it, can anyone give me any information if anything was done like this by Holesch. regards,
