I have a drawing signed Klee, 1927 the abstract water color drawing shows a woman flying a kite attached to a red&black flag and hold a mirror in one hand. Who is Klee? It all has meaning... I would like to know...
Possible lead on John Klee
I had the idea of checking John Klee out on Google Ireland. One relevant item popped up, from the site of an abstract artist named Maura Fehy:
I taught myself contemporary painting from studying great artists like Picassco, Rodin, Dali, Duchamp, Kazimir Malevich, John Klee and Jackson Pollock.
She places him in some very heady company, obviously. There is contact info for her and I am going to get in touch.
John Klee Ireland
to 'debroah, or anyone with more info on john klee. I too bought one of his paintings from his studio in Ireland in the late 80's. Any info will be apprecated!
Klee harbor scape
We have a dramatic painting of a nighttime harborscape.... looks like it could be San Francisco, painted by KLEE - big bold letters in the lower left corner. It measures about 18" x 42". From what I've read on these postings I'm thinking it may be Paul Klee, nephew of the better-known Paul Klee, who lived in Beaverton, OR. The painting came to us from a relative in Oregon, but I don't know if they bought it there or when they were living the the Bay Area. Any ideas?
While driving through Ireland in the late 1980's I stopped by an artists home. I had tea with him and his wife, I bought a large painting of a man sitting by the fire. The artist gave me an article about himself which is now behind the backing of the framed painting. He told me that his art did not need a frame I agree but I needed to place his story with his painting. I would love to get in touch with him. He did mention the birthplace of his beautiful wife which I will not mention in this comment. I love this painting and that memorable cup of tea!!
Not Paul Klee!
My apologies! I jumped the gun in my last post. After sending photo's of my two "Klee" paintings to him, Paul Klee in Oregon is not the artist of my two paintings. He was so sure they were his in our phone conversation!?!
I am back on the search. Maybe it is John after all. It would be nice to see someone elses image to confirm signature and style.
Per my last post I have found the artist who painted my two "Klee" Paintings. His name is....Paul Klee...not THE Paul Klee but Paul Klee that lives in Beaverton Oregon. I spoke to him at length tonight and will have more information on him at a later date. His signature is "Klee" in straight bold brush strokes and his motif is very bold and dynamic with deep reds and yellow skies usually with some non descript character with a shadow. This Paul Klee studied and painted in Denmark until his mid 20's.
I have purchased a "pair" of large paintings with a signature "klee". The signature is in straight strokes and is not Paul Klee. These are extremely well done oil on board with Landscape as the subject matter. There are small non descript people in the paintings with a shadow behind them. The paintings are very bold with a lot of deep red and back as if it were a stormy sky or sunset. Style is very dynamic. I am assuming the artist is John Klee but would love to verify. I can take photo's of these and send to someone for verification. I do not want to post photo's here until I am sure. Would love to know history and sales values.
