The Canedo I knew David I also shared dinners and drinks with Canedo. He was never, to my knowledge, ever sent back to Mexico nor did he paint the usual types of Mexican scenes. He died in Los Angeles. Ted, Canedo did indeed title his paintings. One of them I own is Celestial Shells with primary color chartreuse for frame as well. If you describe the subject matter and primary color I might be able to help you.
Rob there were fake Canedos confirmed by his long-time companion, Jim Aarli. It would not have been difficult to forge his PRINTED signature. I don't believe he ever set foot in Scotland. perhaps he did see a photo of the cave as he did also paint from photos.

Friend Canedo Over the years in California I had dinner many times with Alex. I bought many of his paintings and have since given them as gifts. We always a good time. I left California in 1969 & heard later that immigration officials sent Alex back to Mexico where he soon died. I've no details, unfortunately. David in Osaka
