portrait of m.d. luhan
mabel dodge luhan was a wealthy patron of the arts and writer. the portrait which is at the beinecke library at yale was done by mary foote, not by mary h foote--they commonly are confused. What is your interest in the portrait?

Mary Hallock Foote
Mrs. Foote did a portrait of Mable Dodge Luhan. Does anyone know the identity of this woman, i.e. who she is and where she lived?
Thank you.

In his 1971 novel, Angle of Repose, writer Wallace Stegner draws on the life of Mary Hallock Foote to create his character Susan Burling Ward, an artist trained in NYC who marries a mining engineer.
